Prototyping my open educational CLIL project

Hi everyone! As I said in the previous post I was working prototyping my own educational project. And... HERE IT IS! Today's post is about my first ideas about it, for that purpose, first I have fill in a template by Perez Torres, I. That you can see filled by clicking on the link below:
Prototyping my open educational CLIL project
I have protoyped a project mainly about English and literacy, that you can use for every subject, as the tool we are going to work with in the classroom is scratch junior. This is now an app that you can get either as application or in the computer, that provides opportunities to work with almost every subject.
During the project I will be developing in the following weeks,  the idea is to make a project so that students can use the application to generate their own interactive touchbook, as they will be creating their characters, setting, plots and everyting not only in groups and indivually but also the whole class will contribute to make a beggining of the story.
To explain better my initial idea and the project I have made a video that you can see below:

For the video editting I have used Windows Movie Maker as it is a tool I already know and gives the opportunity to add the elements I need.
Prototyping my open educational CLIL project I have learned that having analysed one before is very useful to get and idea about what I want to do for mine. This project is based in the one that CREATICA and IBM have been doing for years, with first graders, teaching them how scratch junior works.
Before going, I have to thanks the owners of the images and music of the video, that are form:

Analysing an open educational project

Hi Everyone!
This week I am going to post my Open CLIL educational digital project, but for that purpose, firstly, I have analysed an open educational project from the Blog, CLILingmesoftly so that I can see what things worked and what need to be developed in order to make myself and idea about what I want.
This is a great way to start a project with your kids, by giving them a project they can analyse as a tool to start generating or creating their own ideas.
As I have followed the Buck Institute for Education's PBL standars the main analysed points are:
- Key knowledge, understanding and success skills
- Challenging Problem or Question
- Sustained Inquiry
- Authenticity
- Student Voice & Choice
- Reflection
- Critique & Revision
- Public Product

Before getting into the analysis I would recomend you to visit CLILingmesoftly were I found the open educational project called CLIL Presentation strings, which is a power point about string instruments for the music lesson.

Key knowledge, understanding and succes skills:
The project is focus on teaching knowledge, extending the Teacher Talking Time and the students are not asked to use their critical thinking, solve problems, collaborate or doing self-management. Content, is the main point of the presentation as not only the explanation, but also the activities are about it.

Challenging problem or question:
This project is not based on a problem or question to answer, as it is just for the students to memorise and learn content, but it would become a different project with questions to answer if we change the methodology and give our students time to think by themselves. In the introduction of the Violin we can also read "No WHY'S from the pupils" by doing this, of course, from my point of view, the pupils' attention will be reduce, and it won't be engaging.

Sustained inquiry
This project last two lessons, depending on the regional educational progame this can be more or conversely less, but it is true to say that in two lessons the students won't be able to generate questions, and even less to find and use resources by themselves or develop their own answers.  In the opposite way we need to take into account that the projects you can find in the blog are suppose to be "small-scale projects meant to be seen as first stabs"

Authenticity
The project has a real-world context it brings realia to the classroom and uses real-world processes and tools, as it shows different ways to connect the real violin, not only with the sound it makes, but also with instruments with similar characteristics.

Student voice and choice
The project does not allow students to make some choices about the products they create as they are not creating materials, their are reproducing what they have learned.

Reflection
The project does not provide opportunities for students to reflect on what and how they are learning, and on the project’s design and implementation.

Critique and revision
The project includes a worksheet for students to give and receive feedback on their work, in order to know if they have learned the different parts of the violin in English and German.

Public product
The students are just required to fill the gaps, they have a Worksheet to work on and they are asked to know what they have learned during the previous lesson, there is no mark-up from the students creating their own product basing their ideas on what they have learned before.

You can also see the presentation I have made about it using genial.ly a grat tool to create presentations online by clicking on the link below:

Or whatching the embedded presentation.

In conclusion, from my point of view, this is not a CLIL unit. Analysing it, the problem is that I see the project as a whole, and maybe it is just an introduction about string struments that will be delevoped later on. What is is true to say is that the L1 predominates, or at least that is what I have appreciate and makes the change the to the second language more difficult.

What I have learned by analysing it, is that in my own educational project which I will try to upload this week, the students need to be asked and to make deeper connections by using the critical thinking, but also that realia is important as they have a better idea than when talking about abstract things. Even when the project I have analysed do not meet most of the requirements I am very thankfull as it has helped me to realise what I really want to focus on, and what really matters.
